Judith Quax

Background

Voyage à Dakar will be part of Sense of Place in the Amsterdam Museum from 11 December 2020 to 28 March 2021.

At Gorée Island, Senegal, I will present a site specific installation of Voyage à Dakar, March 2019.

Me and my son traveled overland from Amsterdam to Dakar, meeting family, friends and other travelers
– all Senegalese migrants – along the way. The project is in progress, resulting in a book and exhibition.

Soil in my Pocket is an art installation on migration, in collaboration with visual artist Ellert Haitjema.
It is a multi-screen installation, both at the outside and inside of EYE Filminstitute.

I will present the first images of Amsterdam – Dakar and the photo album I made with my Senegalese family
in the Fotodok group exhibition There is Something about My Family. My publication “Presence in Absence” is ready: Text by Salah M. Hassan, design by René Put, published by
Timmer Art Books / Lecturis.

Africultures
published an interview with Koyo Kouoh in which she talks about the show “Absence”.
“Graves of immigrants by Judith Quax is undoubtedly the most significant work of the exhibition.” (…)

A selection of the immigration project is published in the # 25 edition of Nka Journal of Contemporary African Art,
accompanied by an introduction by curator Salah M. Hassan.
